Ministry of Interior and Metrash History
The Ministry of Interior was established in 1970 by decree No. (5), with the mission of maintaining peace, security, and safety for all Qatar residents and citizens.
The original Metrash service was introduced in 2006 as a simple SMS notification system for mobile users. It initially alerted residents about traffic violations, residency permit expiry, and license expiration dates.
In its early years, the service wasn’t widely adopted due to complicated registration procedures that required visits to MOI self-service kiosks. Over time, the process was streamlined, allowing users to register directly from their smartphones in just a few minutes.
This evolution has led to today’s comprehensive platform with over 2 million active users accessing more than 250 different services around the clock.
